Setting up web forwarding

With SmartyHost web forwarding service, you can forward a domain name to a web page on any other domain. For example, you can forward the source domain name to http://destination_domain_name or http://destination_domain_name/page_name.

Things you'll need

  • User name and password for the Account Manager or the Package Manager

The web forwarding will work only if the domain name has been delegated to SmartyHost name servers.

  • If you purchased the domain name through SmartyHost, the domain name should have been delegated to the SmartyHost name servers.
  • If you purchased the domain name from another company, you need to contact that company to find out where the domain name is delegated to.

Instructions

Tip    This web forwarding is a temporary redirect, also known as 302 redirect. If you have a FTP account on your source domain name, you can set up permanent redirect, also known as 301 redirect. For more information, see 301 redirect vs. 302 redirect.
